Gerry Lorenz, proprietor of Whippletree Farms Antiques started his business some thirty five years ago at the Wauconda Orchards in the sleepy resort community of Wauconda, Illinois. Twenty years later in 1997, he acquired the former Blackburn and Broughton Hardware store located in the business district on Main Street, and christened it, “Whippletree Farms Antiques,” where it remains today.
Our building is a turn-of-the-century gem, unaltered in ninety years. It is a two-story, 10,000 square foot facility highlighted by hardwood floors and 12-foot ceilings crowned with original ornamental poly-chromed tin ceilings. The spaciousness of the store enables Whippletree to store a vast array of merchandise rarely found in other antique shops. We regularly stock an outstanding collection of American 18th and 19th century furniture both “formal” and “country”—china, silverware, glassware, jewelry, lighting, architectural elements, bronzes, and a vast collection of one of a kind antiques too numerous to list, are to be found in abundance.
Annual shopping trips to the antique markets in Europe provide our customers with the opportunity to purchase from an outstanding selection of hand-picked 18th and 19th century of European furniture and antiques. Gerry has collected antique horse drawn vehicles for many years. A carriage or sleigh is usually on display.
Whippletree is known for its service—indeed, our staff has a combined total of over 150 years experience in the antiques field. Our customers come from all over the world. They value the fact that we have a knowledgeable staff and that we stand behind what we sell. We modestly believe our store is the finest in the Chicago area. Come for a visit! We are positive you will be glad you did! Our customers are pleased to find an antique shop not filled with gifts and reproductions.
